In seiner klaren

The Salon of the Studium Generale of the UdK
The #generalsalon as a guest at the bauhaus reuse on Ernst Reuter Platz.
Since the summer semester 2018, the #generalsalon is an elementary part of the Studium Generale of the
University of the Arts and, together with the lecture series fundamente, forms the framework of the
Teaching program of the study area. The Studium Generale sees itself as a link between
public discourses, daily political topics and the subject-specific content of the UdK. This
interface is formed not only by the constant fluctuation of lecturers, who introduce new and different aspects into the university context.
new and different aspects into the university context, but also through the kind of communication and
dialogue that is cultivated in the Studium Generale.
While the fundaments are directly and indirectly linked to courses renowned and
above all fundamental positions of the humanities and natural sciences or their protagonists present themselves,
the #generalsalon focuses on the students and teachers themselves.
It is about togetherness, about practicing controversial speaking and encountering. In its clear
structure, the #generalsalon is a teaching offer that is designed to be activating and that aims to promote dialogue across
across faculty boundaries. For this – as in the foundations – it is necessary to open up these
open these formats, at least theoretically. To allow the public means always to remain attentive
and to become aware of one’s self-referentiality – best to avoid it.
While the #generalsalon in the last 3 semesters visited different places within the UdK at the Hardenbergstrasse
visited different locations, we are very happy about the bauhaus reuse. The positioning on
Ernst Reuter Platz, the insularity, the architectural context, and much more, offer the exact possibility
that the UdK, between all the different buildings, attitudes on more or less “neutral”
terrain without fear of thresholds.
