BHROX bauhaus reuse | zukunftsgeraeusche is an official partner of the «New European Bauhaus» Community and participates as a public urban laboratory and transdisciplinary center in cooperation with the district of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf with new ideas, innovative model projects and events in the initiative of the European Commission – for a sustainable development under the motto «beautiful, sustainable, together»:

Launched by the European Commission and officially launched at the end of January 2021, the New European Bauhaus initiative sees itself as an interdisciplinary, creative movement, experimentation and networking platform that calls on all Europeans* to work together to develop and realize ideas for a sustainable and inclusive future that is aesthetically, intellectually and emotionally appealing. Programmatically, the initiative combines the guiding idea of a European «Green Deal» with concrete living spaces in order to shape future forms of coexistence in Europe according to these principles.

To achieve these goals, civil society organizations whose work demonstrably meets the criteria of the initiative and which have sufficient capacity for public effectiveness can become «Partners of the New European Bauhaus» to act as multipliers and local interfaces.

BHROX bauhaus reuse | zukunftsgeraeusche has successfully passed the application procedure with the EU and has been accepted as an official partner of the «New European Bauhaus». BHROX bauhaus reuse is a project of zukunftsgeraeusche in cooperation with the district Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf of Berlin.

The glass pavilion BHROX on the Ernst-Reuter-Platz in Berlin will communicate the goals of the «New European Bauhaus» initiative according to the principles of a «Real-Laboratory» («Living Lab») and as an information place and will promote the inter- and transdisciplinary dialogue and knowledge exchange between civil society, science, art and culture.

The special contribution of BHROX bauhaus reuse and zukunftsgeraeusche in the coming years will be to contribute to the «New European Bauhaus» through transdisciplinary content, through ongoing projects and especially by initiating new projects with partners from education, research, culture, practice, politics and administration, for example:

  • As a pilot platform for the “Campus Charlottenburg”, a lighthouse project founded by the TU Berlin, the UdK Berlin and the district of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf for the exchange between science and the public.
  • As a location for the «Stadtlabor 2050» in the district for the dialogue between the urban population and politics, among other things through innovative model projects such as the project “Milieuschutz vs. Klimaschutz?” or the dialogue series «Ideen-Forum Nachhaltige Stadt» and «Building Best Practice».
  • Through transdisciplinary projects such as the research and model project “Milieuschutz vs. Klimaschutz?”, which deals with solutions for conflicting goals between climate neutrality and the social city, based on the challenges of energetic neighborhood development in social preservation areas. In cooperation with the TU Berlin and the Berlin districts of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf and Neukölln, funded by the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU).
  • Through transdisciplinary and practice-oriented educational projects on sustainable building and monument conservation under the title «Bildung Bauen Bauhaus» (Education Building Bauhaus), e.g. on the renovation of Ernst-Reuter-Platz in line with monument conservation requirements, currently on the occasion of Werner Düttmann’s 100th anniversary year.
  • Through art and performance projects under the title «Cultural Practices in Urban Space» such as the program «The Only Artist» , which encourages a performative examination of the zeitgeist in the pandemic and of urban space, or with the participatory dance program «Dancing on Ernst-Reuter-Platz» , especially under the aspect of inclusion of people with disabilities.
  • As part of the “reusecity” project, a network and collaborative method for reusing resources as a professional alternative to conventional recycling.
  • With the focus theme «Modern Emancipation», which deals in the long term with the development of modern societies, social emancipation, women’s emancipation and gender justice. In 2021, the exhibition “Frau Architekt*in” (TU Berlin, Berliner Architekturmuseum, Architektenkammer Berliner) will take place at BHROX as part of the Berlin-wide festival “Women in Architecture”. As well as with the topic «Democracy and Building Culture».
  • With contributions and the further development of the festival «Triennale der Moderne», which was launched in 2013 and connects large and small institutions, as well as civil society and municipal actors in a bottom-up network. For the coming years, the Triennale is to be increasingly developed into a European network and, with the program of the next Triennials in 2022, 2025 and beyond, to carry forward the objectives of the «New European Bauhaus».
