MANY FACES – ONE GOAL: CHILDREN´S RIGHTS FOR ALL.
BERLIN, GERMANY
SEPTEMBER 2026 | 200 PORTRAITS
“Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf Unites for Children’s Rights, Inclusion, and Democracy.”
Many Faces – One Goal: Children’s Rights for All is a district-wide civic initiative launched in Berlin-Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf to make children’s rights visible, tangible, and impossible to overlook in public spaces—in collaboration with the international Inside Out Project.
Through the power of portrait photography, creative participation formats, and community engagement, the project brings together people of different generations and backgrounds, united by a common goal: standing up for every child’s right to grow up with dignity, equal opportunities, protection, participation, and respect.
The initiative invites schools, youth organizations, universities, social service providers, cultural institutions, public bodies, businesses, families, children, young people, and residents of all ages to become part of a visible and inspiring movement for children’s rights. Through their participation, individuals and organizations contribute to a powerful public statement that celebrates diversity, strengthens social cohesion, and reaffirms the democratic values that form the foundation of an open and inclusive society.
At a time when anti-democratic and exclusionary movements increasingly challenge equality, diversity, participation, and inclusion, it is more important than ever to create visible signs of solidarity and shared responsibility. Children’s rights are universal human rights. They apply to every child—regardless of origin, nationality, language, religion, disability, gender, social background, or family situation. Through this project, we want to send a clear and positive message: children’s rights belong to all children, without exception.
The project places children and young people at the center of public attention. Their voices, experiences, hopes, and rights deserve to be seen and heard. Through a large-scale public portrait campaign, we will transform streets, public squares, institutions, and community spaces into platforms for dialogue, visibility, and participation. Every portrait becomes part of a larger collective image that reflects the diversity, strength, and vitality of our community.
From September 1 to World Children’s Day on September 20, hundreds of portraits and creative community activities will transform Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf into a visible celebration of children’s rights. Public exhibitions, artistic interventions, educational programs, and participatory events will invite residents to engage with the principles of democracy, inclusion, and equal rights. At the same time, they will create opportunities for interaction, exchange, and cooperation across generations, cultures, and different walks of life.
Through art, participation, and collective action, we aim to strengthen solidarity, visibility, and democratic values within our community. The project seeks not only to raise awareness of children’s rights but also to encourage active engagement and long-term responsibility. By taking a public stand together, we demonstrate that the well-being, protection, and participation of children are responsibilities that concern society as a whole.
200 portraits. One district. One message. Many Faces – One Goal: Children’s Rights for All.
„Our first photo station: at BHROX bauhaus reuse, the glass house in the middle of Ernst-Reuter-Platz.
From June 12 to August 2, you can have your portrait taken there and participate in our project every Tuesday through Sunday between 12:00 PM and 8:00 PM.
Each portrait will become part of a large public installation promoting children’s rights, diversity, participation, and democracy. With your photo, you join many other people from Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf in sending a visible message in support of an open, supportive, and child-friendly society.
The portraits will be displayed at prominent locations throughout Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf from September 1 (Anti-War Day) until September 20 (World Children’s Day). Together, they will form a collective image of the diversity of our district and invite visitors to engage with the rights of children and young people.
Everyone who wishes to stand up for children’s rights, diversity, participation, and democracy is warmly welcome!“
Sonya Mayoufi – Director of the Youth Welfare Office, Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf
Whether as an individual, family, school class, youth group, association, initiative, or institution—every participation matters. Together, we make visible that children’s rights concern us all and that a democratic, diverse, and inclusive society begins where the rights of all children are recognized, protected, and fulfilled.
The Inside Out Project is a platform that supports communities around the world in standing up for their beliefs and creating local action that contributes to global change. Group leaders design their campaigns by displaying large-scale black-and-white portraits of members of their communities in public spaces. Together, they create a public work of art.
