REUSE PLASTIC SPINDLE NODE
The installation consists of conically shaped plastic spindles that, when inserted into each other, bring together a bundle of artificial, bamboo-like individual strands – suspended from the roof structure in the large room of the bauhaus reuse, the fibers of both ends extend chaotically. In the center of the room, all fibers come together in the – NODE – to fray out again on the opposite side. As a symbolic bundling of thoughts, ideas and opinions, this installation can be understood as a concentration. A bringing together of or from the “many” in a common direction, bundled and sustainable.
The spindles, in different colors, were the remains of the equipment of an abandoned cotton spinning mill, on which the various yarns were once spun. Starting from the ready-made, these spin the reuse idea further and with their wonderful qualities become another, new thing. The installation follows the reuse principle, in which the individual elements continue to stand for themselves, while at the same time the new meaning and the work of art emerge from the changeable function.
The spindles are partly made of different materials, vulcanized fiber and mainly plastic, are typified and compatible with slight variations. However, the serial products unfold their new properties only with the reuse in the system, with the connection as fractals to rows from a certain length.
The emergence from function and the multiplication of properties, from the sum of the parts, exemplify the nature of an all-encompassing concept of art in modernism and art production vis-à-vis technical reproducibility.
The expansive art installation by zukunftsgeraeusche can be seen daily through the windows of the bauhaus reuse, for example during a winter walk through Berlin via Ernst-Reuter-Platz – in the darkness the installation is illuminated in color.
