Rundgang 2024 – Rundgang 2024 – “Exploring Sound Fields – Imaginary Workspace”
Open Days at the Berlin University of the Arts
At the end of the summer semester, Berlin University of the Arts will open its studios, ateliers, workshops and rehearsal stages to the public from 19 to 21 July 2024. On this weekend, interested Berliners and guests of the city are invited to take a look at the work and artistic processes of students and teachers. Visitors can discover visual arts, architecture, dance, film, music, theatre, fashion, poster art, design and much more at ten locations.
Exhibitions, readings and performances in ‘satellite locations’ such as the KunstHausMitte, the Alte Schule Adlershof, the Neue Gärten in Potsdam or the BHROX bauhaus reuse on the central island of Ernst-Reuter-Platz complete the programme.
The tour is open to everyone and admission is free. Tickets are not necessary, with the exception of the Show24 of the Fashion course at the Institute for Experimental Clothing and Textile Design on 20 July 2024.
The project, titled “Exploring Sound Fields – Imaginary Workspace,” will be showcased again at BHROX bauhaus reuse as part of the UDK Rundgang 2024 from 19 to 21 of July 2024.

To celebrate the “Czech Year of Music 2024,” a German-Czech collaboration project involving students from the UMPRUM Art Academy in Prague and the UdK Berlin was launched in partnership with the Czech Center and BHROX bauhaus reuse in Berlin. This transdisciplinary exchange project focused on creating experimental sound compositions and digital visualizations, culminating in an interactive exhibition at BHROX bauhaus reuse in May, which was opened with a joint performance.
The project, titled “Exploring Sound Fields – Imaginary Workspace”, provides participants with a collaborative platform to develop innovative artistic practices using both analog and digital media on shared themes. This initiative emphasizes the interplay between performativity and sound within human environments, beyond just music and visual art. Key questions guiding the project include: What roles do music and less graceful sounds play? How do we respond to them? In what contexts do we encounter these sounds and music? A literary metaphor for the influence of sound is the “Pied Piper of Hamelin,” demonstrating how suggestive sounds can impact beyond their artistic realm. Through performance art, software development, and the use of digital and analog instruments, German and Czech students explore our reactions to sounds and music across political and cultural boundaries, highlighting their unconscious integration into our lives today.
“Exploring Sound Fields – Imaginary Workspace” builds on the success of “UMPRUM.wav,” which was showcased at Milan Design Week and awarded at Prague Designblok. It is part of the “Performative Practices in Urban Space” program at BHROX bauhaus reuse.
This project is a collaboration between UMPRUM – Academy of Art, Design and Architecture in Prague, UdK Berlin, BHROX bauhaus reuse, and the Czech Center Berlin. The “Exploring Sound Fields – Imaginary Workspace” exhibition showcases the results of a semester-long project and two workshop sessions held in Prague and Berlin. Students from UMPRUM’s Faculty of Fine Arts and Studio for Design and Digital Technologies, along with UdK Berlin’s Faculty of Generative Art/Computational Art at the Institute for Time-based Media, participated in this collaboration.
This year’s Logo design was created by Leon Hochhäuser and Momo Anders from Prof Barbara Kotte’s Campaigns class. More info: www.rundgang.udk-berlin.de or www.udk-berlin.de/rundgang.
