Stories from around the Non-Aligned
The exhibition “Stories from around the Non-Aligned” by Olja Triaśka Stefanović portrays her encounter with the Cold War and the emergence of the Non-Aligned Movement, and the role of Yugoslavia in the framework of the decolonization movement, as a leading European country in the newly formed association of independent states (Ghana, India, Egypt, Indonesia, etc.). The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) was established in Belgrade in 1961 as a forum for countries that were not aligned with either of the two power blocs of the Cold War. Triaška Stefanović questions the intimate stories and entanglements, via political and personal iconography, of how individuals of her generation identified with the legacy of the NAM, the extent to which it was a utopia, and how it was present in the daily lives of Yugoslavians.
