Postmodernism revisited

info:

The seminar “Postmodernism revisited” examines postmodern philosophy, art history, and architectural theory through key texts and prominent figures like Robert Venturi, Denise Scott Brown, and James Stirling. It connects these theoretical concepts to contemporary urban planning through discussions, student presentations, and joint field trips to document Berlins 1980s IBA (Internationale Bauausstellung) projects and the design work on a local lot.

Postmodernism revisited

Cities are not blank slates, but narrative spaces in which certain stories are inscribed. In Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, Berlin,
we set out to explore layers of meaning and, through our architectural design, address the concept of the Productive City, Climate-Resilient Revitalization and Urban Transformation within the Berliner Block. The reevaluation of the Berlin Block was initiated in the 1970s by the IBA projects, which made an important contribution to the postmodernism debate of the time. In the “Vertiefen” seminars , we discuss key texts of postmodern philosophy , art theory, and architectural theory, and relate them to contemporary issuses in architecture and urban planning.
