Film a Architektura
Special Screening in Berlin
In partnership with zukunftsgeraeusche GbR and the Czech Center Berlin, this event is presented with the support of the prestigious Czech festival Film a Architektura, which runs from September 26 to October 1, 2024, in Prague, Brno, and other locations. The festival is dedicated to showcasing contemporary Czech and international films that explore the intersection of architecture and design.
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Franz Kafka’s death, the 13th edition of the festival, themed Oddities and Otherness, highlights films focused on architects and structures that, at the time of their creation, were either overlooked or met with disapproval. The evening will open with an introduction by Václav Ševčík, curator of the Film a Architektura festival, who will provide an overview of the festival’s history and the selected film.

Sigurd Lewerentz is recognized as one of Sweden’s foremost modernist architects. His early designs were shaped by neoclassical influences, while his later works, such as St. Mark’s Church in Stockholm, embraced the raw aesthetics of brutalism. Lewerentz’s preference for a secluded life and his refusal to give interviews contributed to an air of mystery around his work. In Lewerentz Divine Darkness, director Sven Blume offers a rare and intimate look at Lewerentz’s legacy, drawing on previously undiscovered audio and video recordings from the archive of Bernt Nyberg, a close colleague and friend of the architect during his final years.
The screening will be followed by a video discussion with director Sven Blume.
