wildcard studio residencies at BHROX

Mit open qu|art|erly bietet das BHROX bauhaus reuse für Initiativ-Bewerbungen von Künstler*innen, Gruppen oder Kollektiven aller Genres eine wildcard studio residency im gläsernen Pavillon auf dem Ernst-Reuter-Platz.
Die residencies sind ein Teil von Art on ERP und eine Fortsetzung der Pandemie-bedingten Programm-Reihe «THE ONLY ARTIST» (TOA). Das Format TOA wurde im Frühjahr 2020 ins Leben gerufen, um während des Lockdowns, inmitten der Stadt, weiterhin Kunstproduktion einerseits isoliert als auch gleichzeitig vor den Augen der Öffentlichkeit zu ermöglichen. Mit dem transparenten, multifunktionalen Gebäude hat sich das BHROX als ein relativ Corona-resilienter Kulturort erwiesen – als Studio, Werkstatt, Ausstellungsraum und Bühne, die sich zum Platz hin öffnet.

Im Rahmen des BHROX-Schwerpunkts «Kulturelle Praktiken im urbanen Raum» zielen die studio residencies auf die Förderung der Berliner Kunstlandschaft und deren Einbindung in urbane Entwicklungen. Dies folgt der Überzeugung, dass Kunstproduktion in öffentlichen Räumen zur Realisierung kultureller Teilhabe beiträgt und vor den Augen der Öffentlichkeit, als Vermittlungsformat, das Publikum in den Prozess der Kunst(raum)produktion einbindet.

In dem niedrigschwellig konzipierten Format können sich sowohl Einzelkünstler*innen als auch Gruppen bzw. Kollektive initiativ mit einem einem aussgekräftigen Konzept bewerben. Eine Bedingung ist, dass das Projekt am BHROX erarbeitet und während der residency vor Ort und/oder online (Live-Stream) präsentiert wird. Dabei ist die Nähe zu den am BHROX verhandelten Themen nachhaltige Stadt / Entwicklung, Erbe und Zukunft der Moderne, transeuropäischer Dialog und/oder Emanzipation erwünscht. Die Bewerbung erfolgt formlos per email (pdf) an das BHROX. Die Bewerbungen von Menschen aller Nationalitäten, Herkünfte und Identitäten sind ausdrücklich willkommen.

Die residencies werden vorbehaltlich der räumlichen und zeitlichen Verfügbarkeit ermöglicht; in der Regel für ein bis zwei Wochen pro Quartal. Die Auswahl der Bewerbungen erfolgt im Zuge der Programm-Kuration am BHROX.

wildcard studio residencies at BHROX

With open qu|art|erly, the BHROX bauhaus reuse offers a wildcard studio residency for unsolicited applications from artists*, groups or collectives of all genres in the glass pavilion on Ernst-Reuter-Platz.
The residencies are part of Art on ERP and a continuation of the pandemic-related program series «THE ONLY ARTIST» (TOA). The TOA format was launched in spring 2020 in order to continue to enable art production within urban space during the lockdown, both in isolation and at the same time in front of the public.
With the transparent, multifunctional building, the BHROX has proven to be a relatively corona-resistant cultural venue – as a studio, workshop, exhibition space and stage that opens onto the square.

As part of the BHROX focus “Cultural Practices in Urban Space”, the studio residencies aim to promote Berlin’s art landscape and its integration into urban developments. This follows the idea that art production in public space contributes to the realization of cultural participation and in front of the public, as a dissemination format, involves the audience in the process of art(space)production.

For the low-threshold format, both individual artists and groups / collectives can apply with a project draft. One condition is that the project will be developed at BHROX and presented on site and/or online (live stream) during the residency. A focus on the main topics discussed at BHROX, being sustainable development, heritage and future of Modernism, trans-European dialogue and/or emancipation, will be appreciated. Applicants send a meaningful concept (pdf) via email to BHROX. Applications from people of all nationalities, backgrounds and identities are highly welcome.

The residencies are made possible depending to spatial and temporal availability; usually for one to two weeks per quarter. Applications are selected by the program curation at BHROX.
